Detecting Benzos in a Drug Test
We sometime get calls from people who are in a drug treatment program and are asking for detox products that will let the methadone show up on their test but will cover up the benzos. There is no such product. The same day detox products do not differentiate between substances. They block everything from showing up. If something other than the methadone shows up in their drug test then they get kicked out of the program.
Just what exactly is a benzo? Benzos are short for benzodiazepines and these are the metabolites from the most commonly prescribed drugs in The United States today. Drugs like Valium, Ativan, and Xanax are also some of the most widely abused prescription drugs today.
These drugs are depressants and are prescribed for anxiety and the prevention of seizures and spasms and affect the central nervous system. Used as prescribed these are very effective remedies for some serious medical conditions. However, they can be seriously addictive and often become abused by those not prescribed them. The benzodiazepines are often used to ease the withdrawal from the drug abusers drug of choice so the presence of the benzos in the drug abusers system is often a red flag for the treatment center that the patient is abusing the drugs that they are trying to detox from.
Detection time for benzos varies with each individual and each type of benzodiazepine. A one time use of Valium will have a detection time of anywhere from 7 to ten days while detection time for Rohypnol, better known as roofies, has a detection time of just two to four days. Mixing benzodiazepines with alcohol can be a deadly combination. Finding home test strips for benzodiazepines is not easy so if you want to pass a drug test and not have benzodiazepines detected then stay away from them if you do not have a prescription for them.
