Dilution versus Delusion
There is a distinct difference between Dilution and Delusion. If you think that you will pass a drug test by drinking a lot of water then you may be delusional, or out of your mind. The only thing accomplished by drinking too much water is dilution. Dilution is also referred to as water loading and this renders the urine sample unusable as a verifiable lab sample for detection of drugs in the subject’s specimen.
If you drink too much water on the days leading up to your urine drug test the testing facility may test your sample and give you what is called a negative dilute which may require you to return another day and take another drug test to provide a new sample or they may fail you. A diluted sample results in a low level of creatine found in your urine. Creatine is found in red meat and metabolizes into creatinine in twenty four to forty eight hours and is one of the measurements used in your drug test. Creatinine levels must be found to be 20 mg/dl or higher for a person to pass their urine test. Any measurement of creatinine in the urine sample that falls below this measurement can be considered a diluted sample. This part of the drug test is called Specimen Validity Testing and it is done to ensure that the urine being tested is consistent with normal human urine. This does not certify that it is indeed actual human urine, only that it is consistent with normal human urine. This is why synthetic urine contains the appropriate amount of creatine for testing.
