Dilution versus Delusion Part 9
A neutral level for urine is 7 in the pH scale used to measure urine when you try to pass a drug test. A high pH level or a low pH level does not necessarily indicate any drug metabolites like THC in the urine but an abnormal pH level may cause the testing facility to question the validity of the sample and require a new sample to be tested.
Retesting an individual is at the discretion of the company who are pre-screening job applicants but sometimes the company will require the applicant to pay for their own drug test the second time if the first sample is found to be unacceptable. Retesting does not always mean submitting another sample. In some cases, if the urine sample is deemed to be diluted then it may be sent out for further scrutiny by what is known as a GC/MS test. This stands for gas chromatography – mass spectrometry testing.
Gas chromatography – mass spectrometry testing is a combination of two types of sample testing to identify different substances in the sample. This test identifies the various substances and does not just serve as an indicator of the presence of substances in the urine sample. This type of testing identifies the toxin in the urine and not just the presence of a metabolite that falls into a specific category of substances. This helps to eliminate the possibility of a false positive for banned substance. The GC/MS test is also referred to as confirmatory testing.
