Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate is a synthetic compound made from combining glycerin and a fatty acid. It is used in cosmetics as an emulsifying agent. An Emulsifier is an ingredient that makes it possible for at least two other ingredients that don’t normally want to combine, (like oil and water for example) combine without problem.

This particular ingredient is a plant-based ingredient. Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate is used as the emulsifying agent between the Stearic acid (which can sometimes cause skin irritation) and glycerin so that the Stearic acid can do its job without causing any skin irritation because of its use. The Stearic acid is the essential ingredient here as its use is what helps to coat each and every hair with a thin layer, making it very important in the masking process. Without the use of Stearic acid, and the emulsifying agent of Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate the hairs would not be completely coated, nor would the Stearic Acid be able to stay put on the hairs.

Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate can be changed in form depending on the temperature that is acting upon it. For it’s use in the Zydot Purifying Shampoo its use is as a liquid, to help spread the purifying shampoo without thinning it out, by guaranteeing that it stays where you put it and coats completely.
