What do we know about marijuana? Part 1

I bet the answer to the question “What is the most popular drug in US today?” will not surprise you. However, you might not know some of the true facts about this substance as for public propaganda and media coverage have created a “bad” and untrue reputation to this practically innocent drug. Well, maybe not completely innocent, but definitely the least harmful of all that is out there.

There are believers that cannabis is harmful for your health and there is not much difference between all of the illegal drugs – they are all bad for you and you should stay away from it by any cost. But people forget that besides being approved for certain medical use, cannabis has never been scientifically proven to be harmful, unlike cocaine, heroin, and other heavy stuff, and even nicotine. We are not trying to advertize pot by any means, but simply stating that it is different. There is no scientific consensus on marijuana use; nevertheless, there is also no scientific proof that casual smoking of pot is harmful to health.

Despite today’s conviction that marijuana is dangerous for any human being, the conclusion of the National Commission on Marijuana and Drug Abuse  concluded back in 1972 that cannabis use is very harmful to health. The researches, studies, and investigations performed by many scientists on humans, animals, and cell cultures since then could not prove anything otherwise. In 1995, based on thirty years of scientific research British medical journal that has been around for centuries, “The Lancet,” concluded that “the smoking of cannabis, even long term, is not harmful to health.”

There you have it – do not believe the rumors, trust the science.
