    Who does the testing

The interview that you have been waiting for is coming up and the only thing that is making it less exciting is the necessity of passing a drug test. When will it be? Will they test right there and then? How much time will I have to prepare for it? These and similar questions trouble your mind more than worrying about how the interview might go. To ease your mind, we just want to mention that in most cases employers themselves are not allowed to perform the actual drug test – only specially educated and trained personnel can do it. This eliminates bias and negligence during the drug test. A person performing a drug test does not have to have any special medical degree, and the test does not necessarily have to be performed at a lab – a special room in the office building will do as long as all the rules of the procedure are followed. First of all, only authorized personnel should have an access to that location, materials and supplies. Second, each donor should be positively identified as an individual selected for the drug testing. And last, but not the least important, proper handling of each sample is vital, as improperly obtained or handled samples can be rejected for testing. Pre-printed specimen ID in the paperwork must match the number indicated on the specimen bottle; the specimen bottle label and seal must be present with no evidence of tampering; no obvious signs of adulteration of the specimen can be noted, like unusual color, consistency, odor or any foreign objects floating in the specimen bottle. Every procedure has its standards, and a drug test is just as important as an entrance interview. Appropriate preparation and proper conduct during a drug test is half the battle.
