Employers are greatly concerned about the activities performed by the employees in-house and even outside the workplace. Once the employee, steps out of the workplace, he/she is the representative of the company one way or the other. Thus drug testing in workplace is vital; however, there are certain limitations. The use of illegal drugs can severely affect the performance of an employee at work and the abusers are more prone to mistakes and accidents. The employers is required to know and understand the state laws regarding a drug test before forcing the applicant to take a pre-employment drug test. Some of the states allow the drug tests for all occupations whereas several others don’t allow drug testing at all. The companies are required to develop a drug test policies for all the employees, regardless of the sex, age, race, nationality or other personal characteristics to avoid any sort of discrimination. The drug test policy should be stated clearly to an applicant during the hiring procedure. According to the United States Department of Transportation, the Omnibus Transportation Act requires a safety sensitive employee to take a drug and alcohol test.
According to the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the individuals that use drugs illegally and fail to pass a drug test may be denied employment. It is thus necessary to pass a drug test to safeguard the job opportunities. To pass drug marijuana detoxification is an effective method. However, it is recommended to stop doing drugs as soon as possible. Drugs can have several negative impacts on the life of the abuser.
