    LSD on Drug Test

LSD or LSD 25 is the abbreviation for Lysergic acid diethylamide. It is also known as lysergide and in the general parlance is referred to as acid. It is known for the psychological effects it produces like a sense of time distortion, changed thinking processes, synaesthesia, ego death and closed and open eye visuals.

It is non addictive and in the pure form is a colorless and odorless mild bitter solid. Generally it is delivered orally in the solid form. As a liquid it can be administered as intravenous or intramuscular injection. The maximum limit of its dose is only 20 to 30 micrograms due to its highly potent nature. LSD is not looked around for in standard single panel drug tests. This is so as it is absorbed quickly and removed rapidly from the body – no traces are found in urine after 24 to 48 hours. Also its potent nature makes the intake amount very low.

The chemical was first synthesized in 1938 by Albert Hofmann. In 1947 it was made available commercially by Sandoz Laboratories under the trade name of Delysid. Its various psychiatric uses quickly made it a therapeutic agent. The CIA used it because of its potential for mind control and chemical warfare. In the 1960s the drug was widely used for recreational purposes by people from the youth culture. This generated considerable controversy and led to its prohibition.

The psychological effects of LSD are many. It can make you feel either very optimistic or extremely pessimistic. It can make you think that all your troubles are about to end through a miraculous event or that everything is about to end. If you are not prepared or take the drug in a strange environment, it can lead to paranoia, panic attacks, extreme anxiety or even a feeling that you are about to die. LSD can cause uterine contractions and therefore should be avoided by pregnant women. Furthermore, it can aggravate mental disorders. And although it is not addictive, prolonged and chronic use can put you into its clutches permanently – coming out of which could be very difficult. The term addictive in this context is a bit different, as consuming LSD once does not make you want to use it again for 3 to 4 days again. But if you use it twice a week it can get you away from the real world – something that can be termed as addiction.
