Life is like a box of chocolates – you can never know what you going to get. Just when you thought you have taken care of everything – something pops up and mixes it all up again.
- Hello, I would like to speak with someone about a urine test.
- We would be glad to help you.
- Ok, I had to take a urine test this past week, and they told me that I failed. Now I know that I’m clean – I haven’t smoked for a long time, and I think they just want to give me a hard time because they know I smoked in the past. Can you tell me, what exactly are you supposed to do when giving them a urine sample?
- Well, they would give you a cup to urinate into, and you would go to the bathroom and fill it up.
- Are there any rules on how exactly to do it?
- I’m not sure – what are you referring to?
- They are saying that I haven’t followed the procedure correctly – I haven’t washed my hands and presumably altered my sample somehow, so they failed me not because I had toxins in my urine, but because I didn’t follow the procedure.
- Were you notified right away that you need to wash your hands prior to submitting a sample?
- No, not that I remember. That’s the thing! If they would have told me to – I would wash my hands! I have passed so many tests with your detox products, and now when I’m clean on my own – they fail me! I cannot believe it!
- Normally, if the donor refuses to follow the procedure it can be marked as “refusal” but not a “positive test.” You have every right to demand a re-test. Or at the very least – further testing of the already submitted sample, as they marked it “positive” they should have kept half of it. In any case, you should be able to have this issue resolved within the lab. Or, you can ask to be re-tested at a different location.
