    Dot Physical Drug Test

    DOT Physical Drug Test

Road Safety is a major concern for policy makers. This is because many people lose their life, limb and livelihood due to road accidents. What is appalling is the fact that most of these catastrophes are totally avoidable and a result of carelessness or momentary loss of concentration, although bad roads and bad quality automobiles are also to blame. Road accidents are a major killer in the entire world, more so in areas where motorized transport has taken root. It is therefore quiet natural for the government to institute systems and procedures to minimize the casualties inflicted by this insidious killer. The DOT Physical Drug Test is one such initiative seeking to reduce road accidents, and their effects, due to low driver fitness.

A drug test is the process of determining the presence or absence of certain drugs in the body of a person. The main types of drug tests are the blood test, the urine drug test, saliva test, sweat drug test and the hair drug test. The same is compulsory for all public and many private employees.

The DOT Physical Drug Test is designed to check whether the driver of a commercial vehicle is a consumer of drugs. The criteria for checking is therefore somewhat modified. Drivers of commercial vehicles often spend many days on roads and are therefore prone to boredom. This can drive them in the clutches of drugs – the consumption of which puts lives in danger their own lives, the lives of other motorists, pedestrians and the like.

The DOT physical drugs test / examination can be conducted only by a licensed medical examiner. This broadly includes doctors of medicine (MD), doctors of chiropractic (DC), physician assistants (PA), doctors of osteopathy (DO), and advanced practice nurses (APN). However, it should be noted that the term medical examiner is not strictly limited to these professionals. The permission granted after the test is valid for a period of 24 months. In some cases the medical examiner may grant the license for a period of less than 24 months. This is usually the case with people having blood pressure. The certificate can be in the form of a proper certificate or in the form of a card.
