Read to know can second hand smoke show up on drug test.
Second hand smoke is inhalation of smoke from tobacco products used by others. Second hand smoke is a combination of side stream smoke that is smoke developed from burning end of tobacco product and main stream smoke i.e. the smoke given out by the smoker. It is also known as passive smoking. In United States the source of second hand smoke is cigarettes, followed by pipes and cigars. Out of the 4000 chemicals present in secondhand tobacco smoke, 250 are known to be harmful while 50 of them are carcinogenic that is cancer causing. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. National Toxicology Program (NTP), and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) have classified secondhand smoke as a known human carcinogen.
Exposure to this smoke can even cause pre mature death in non smoking adults, teens and children. It is really very harmful for our health. In the United States, secondhand smoke has caused about 46,000 heart disease deaths each year. Exposure to second hand smoke can be tested by measuring cotinine a by product of nicotine in the non smokers blood, hair, urine or saliva.
Did you also hang around in such a place where people started smoking pots? Do you have a marijuana pass drug test? Don’t worry and just read this article. Second hand smoke can leave traces of THC in your urine for a day or so after breathing the smoke. But the quantity of this chemical wont be much to make you test positive and you pass a urine drug test.
Hair testing can detect the drug use over a longer period of time say a month or so rather than saying a few weeks or a few days. So in case of a hair drug test, second hand pots could be detected. When a test comes out positive, they take a second sample of your hair, wash it and then test your hair as well as wash water. The second time the hair will be tested for metabolites instead of THC. If there aren’t any metabolites and the water comes out to be positive they come to know that it is second hand smoke and record the test as negative and you pass the drug test.
So if you think you got a little “contact buzz” from the second hand smoke, then you should not worry because you were just an innocent bystander and you will pass a drug test easily.
