Drug and Alcohol Detoxification Disadvantages.
Detoxification is the process of removing traces of all drugs / narcotics from the body of a person / drug user / drug addict. It is usually a long drawn out process when toxins are gradually eliminated from the body.
The first stage of detoxification is drug withdrawal. In this the patient is not allowed to consume the drug to which he has been addicted. During this stage the user / addict exhibits withdrawal symptoms i.e. behavioral changes when he is not allowed to consume the drugs. The reason for this is that the user’s body is used to the drug. Drugs usually affect the central nervous system – the system that controls a person’s response to different situations.
The ultimate aim of the process of detoxification is to remove all traces of the drug from the body of the user. This also eliminates the desire of the user to consume the drug. Even if minor traces of the drug remain inside the body of the user, they can trigger a craving for the drug years after he has been (apparently) detoxified. Drug detoxification can be done using medicines and also by subscribing to a detox diet. Comprehensive detox programs also include counseling, which provides psychological support to the user – an important aspect since drug addiction is as much a physical habit as it is psychological. After detox you can pass any clean stream drug test.
A detox diet is a combination of foodstuffs that can detoxify your body. It usually excludes wheat, milk, alcohol and processed foods in general. Detox supplements like milk thistle and pre and pro biotics are also used. The issue of detox diets is a debatable one, more so because of its disadvantages. These diets are beneficial in the short term, but can lead to nutritional deficiencies in the long run. Cutting out milk can lead to calcium deficiencies and osteoporosis. Other effects include nausea, light headedness, headaches and fatigue. Detox diets are low in calories and can trigger a craving for sugar.
If you are planning to go for a detox diet make sure it includes all the food groups. And use it as the first step for shifting towards a healthy diet and lifestyle. For this diet is not without its benefits viz. feeling less bloated, glowing skin, weight loss, fewer headaches and a better look.
