    The hair test is the most accurate and most reliable among all the drug tests. It is also among the tougher ones to beat. To pass drug test that uses hair as a sample is not as easy as, say, passing a urine drug test. The Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988 made drug testing compulsory for all government employees.     A hair strand drug test for cocaine can be used if the urine test, that is usually used to detect cocaine, is seen to be one that can be easily hoodwinked. In urine, cocaine can be detected for an average period of 3 to 5 days. In case of heavy users this period is 8 days. And, for chronic users the highest recorded detection period was 10 to 22 days. The problem with the urine test is that it can be beaten by detoxification before the sample is collected. Detox for the urine test revolves around burning fats that store drug residues. Drinking a lot of water will then flush out the broken drug residues. For the same reason, i.e. burning fats, sauna treatment is used.

    Beating a hair drug test is not that easy. Drug residues are stored at the base of the cuticle – the middle concentric layer in a human hair. Tampering with a residue stored in such a remote location is difficult. The undisturbed nature of the location is also the reason why drug residues are retained for longer durations inside hair than they are in urine, blood or in saliva. Cocaine residues are retained for as long as 3 months. Masking shampoos can be used to conceal these residues but the results are not completely guaranteed. A better option is to let the hair grow for 3 months and then have a complete hair cut. In case there is a hair drug test before these 90 days, then you will not have any other option than to use masking shampoos.
