Read about drugs nervous system.
Drugs can produce a myriad of effects on the action and functions of the central nervous system. Since our knowledge about the functions of brain and the nervous system is limited people often fail to realize the mechanism of drug actions and the fact that drugs can actually cause any harm to the central nervous system. The central nervous system controls the function of all the tissues of the body. The nervous system receives thousands of input signals from various part of the body and transmits them to the brain via the spinal cord. Let us learn the effect of drugs on the CNS.
Stimulants are the drugs that exert their actions through the excitation of the central nervous system. Cocaine and amphetamines are the best examples of stimulants. They reduce drowsiness by enhancing the mental alertness. However a high dosage can be risky. For example, dosage of caffeine above 200mg will increase nervousness, irritability and headache. Heavy coffee drinkers become dependent on the caffeine.
High dosage of drugs can directly affect the brain and the spinal cord. Antipsychotic drugs can significantly improve hallucinations and abnormal behavior if used within limits. Anesthetics used for surgery reduce the activity of the brain causing a loss of sensation. Analgesics are pain relievers and are generally categorized as narcotics and non narcotics. Narcotics include the natural opium and its derivatives. Non narcotics analgesics like aspirin reduce pain by inhibiting the formation of nerve impulses at the site where one is experiencing a pain.
Limited dose of amphetamines elevates mood, reduces hunger and fatigue, increases concentration and capacity to do work. The need to sleep or eat almost reduces to a great extent. The misuse of amphetamine largely includes the house wife taking diet pills, students cramming all night for an exam and the athletes desiring an improved performance. These are the reasons why drug abuse has increased and made drug testing mandatory for students and athletes.
Drug testing is important so as to improve the society we live in and make it a drug free atmosphere. Passing a drug test has become quite easy with the advent of many detox solutions and drug test kits. Can you beat a hair follicle drug test? This is commonly asked by abusers as it is the most difficult test to pass. But it is quite easy to fool the authorities and pass one.
