Blood In Urine Affect Drug Test

Blood in Urine affect Drug Test.

Hematuria is the condition in which blood, or more precisely red blood cells, are found to be present in the urine of a person. This can be the symptom of a relatively serious disorder like kidney stone or tumor in the urinary tract. If white blood cells are present along with the red ones, then it indicates an infection (with which the white blood cells are fighting, which justifies their presence). Along with indicating a disorder, this condition also seriously interferes with the urine drug test.

Hematuria is caused due to enlarged prostate, kidney stone, ureter stone, medications, trauma, prostate infection, viral infections in the kidney tract and kidney diseases etc.

Drug test is the process of determining the presence, or absence, of certain drugs in the body of a person. Drug testing is compulsory for public employees as mandated under the Drug Free Workplace Act 1988. The provisions of the same statute have been adapted by many private employers as well. Drug tests are conducted before employment and during employment as well. These tests mainly comprise the blood test, the urine drug test, saliva test, sweat test / analysis and the hair test. Blood and urine test in combination is a fairly good indicator of drugs in a person’s body system. However, all tests have limitations – none of them, singly or in combination, are completely reliable. The presence of such drugs in many over the counter medicines makes the possibility of even innocents testing positive a very real one.

Urine test is mainly concerned with determining the kind of drug a person may be consuming. There are two varieties of this test – the standard one and the advanced one. Urine tests specifically look for THC metabolites. All tests rely on chemicals and the effects these chemicals produce, to draw the necessary conclusions. These effects include a change in some characteristic: colour, concentration, pH value and the like. The presence of unnecessary ingredients can and usually does interfere with the results of the drug tests. The same is true for presence of blood in urine. The presence of white blood cells can further complicate matters.
