Can a Drug Test be Refused?

Drug Test is the procedure to determine if the person being tested is a user of drugs. A sample of the person’s body hair or body fluid is extracted and checked for the presence of traces of drugs. The tests are named after the sample. Therefore there is the hair drug test, the urine test, blood test, saliva test and the sweat test. Urine testing is the most common of all drug testing methods. The hair test is the most accurate. It also happens to be the most expensive. The objective of drug tests is to reduce drug use. The possibility of testing positive in a drug test, or even the fear of not being able to pass drug test, is enough to discourage potential and existing drug users. More so because failure can mean loss of job, cancellation of sporting achievements, suspension from school or college and eviction from rented premises. The problem is that if a non-user consumes certain foodstuffs and medicines in a particular period before the test, he or she can test positive. This condition is called as a false positive.

The question that naturally arises is: can a drug test be refused? The answer to the question is, well, it depends. If your company or school / college has a clear and codified policy to this effect, and then the same has been framed and registered by following the due process of law, then refusal will not be possible. Authorities have a right to keep their premises free from the vice of drug use. Instead of fighting over this issue, it is better to know how to pass drug test and how to avoid a false positive result. Passing urine, and broadly the blood test, will need you to burn fats by exercising, drinking a lot of water and eating a healthy and balanced diet for at least 15 days before the test. Passing a hair sample drug test will require you to use a masking shampoo and conditioner before the test. Using a detox mouthwash just before the saliva sample is taken can get you around the saliva drug test.
